Public Speaking - 5 Tips for Getting Past the Ums And Ahs So Your Message Gets Through Loud & Clear

Public speaking is a powerful way for a solo professional or small business owner to market your business. So is presenting teleseminars. But what happens when you get stuck saying too many ums and ahs? Should you quit speaking in favor of other marketing methods? Here is an actual panicked message I received from a client followed by my response:

"Help! I just listened to myself speak on a recording and I had to stop it within a minute. The Ummmss and Ahhhss were horrendous -- 4 or 5 within that time frame! I plan to conduct many teleseminars and do public speaking and this just has to stop now."

Here are the top 5 most effective ways to get past the ums so your message comes through loud and clear:

Public Speaking - 5 Tips for Getting Past the Ums And Ahs So Your Message Gets Through Loud & Clear

1.Practice Out Loud

If you have a tendency to um and uh, the reason is often because you have an idea of what you want to say next, but you're not totally certain. So you insert a verbal filler to fill the space while you figure out the next word. Practicing out loud will get you to the point where you are completely comfortable with what you're saying, and therefore not have the need to um or uh (or at least greatly reduce it). If you plan on delivering the same material multiple times, you'll have to practice much less often as you gain more experience. If you can, record yourself while practicing so you can hear where you tend to um and uh the most.

2. Work From Detailed Notes and Not a Script

You'd think a word-for-word script would make it easier to stop the ums... and it can. But only if you have experience making a script sound natural. Otherwise you'll sound like you're reading. That's the opposite extreme of um and uh and sounds just as bad.

3. Be Aware

This is important. Many people have no idea they rely on verbal pauses or disfluencies until they hear themselves on a recording. The first step in overcoming from any addiction is to recognize and acknowledge you have one. And truly, people who say um and uh too much are addicted to their crutch words. Simply knowing you make this mistake will get you that much closer to stopping it.

4. Pay Attention

Listen to yourself as you present your speech or teleseminar. Do not think about anything else other than what you are saying, how you are saying it and your audience: IN THAT MOMENT. People will um and uh when they are distracted from their planned comments. For example, while on a teleseminar, shut down your email and other instant message features so you won't be visually interrupted (sometimes just the sound of those things can distract you enough to trigger an um.) Don't try to multi-task while leading a call or doing any type of presentation.

5. Connect with Your Audience

Here's a fun test to do the next time you're practicing with a friend: try to say um while making direct eye contact. It's nearly impossible. Why? Because you're having a conversation and um isn't a word. Um doesn't fit and doesn't make sense. While you're having a 1:1 conversation, you would likely avoid um and uh. Make your presentations much more conversational and your um and uh will disappear.

Is it crucial to get rid of all the ums and uhs? Experts disagree, but in my decades of experience as a speaker, audience member, and instructor, I haven't thought less of a speaker who had outstanding content with an occasional um or uh. You don't have to eliminate every um and uh when the rest of your message is solid. The time to get concerned is when your audience is listening for your next um instead of paying attention to your message. So fix what you can, give yourself a break, and um, keep on public speaking.

How To Write A Book And Get Published - What You Must Know

Want to write a book? You can. You start writing, and you keep going. At around 80,000 words, you've got yourself a book. Now what? You sell the book to a major publisher, hit the bestseller lists, and order your new cherry-red Ferrari.

That's how writing a book and getting published works. But if you try to follow that process - just sit down and start typing - the chances that you'll sell the book are slim. To sell your book you need to know the kind of book you're writing before you start, and also whether there's an audience for that kind of book. It sounds unfair, but in order to sell your book, you have to prove to the publisher that people will want to read it.

What Kind of Book are You Writing?

How To Write A Book And Get Published - What You Must Know

Most new authors start on their book writing and publishing adventure by reading a book and getting inspired. They don't think about the kind of book they're writing, or who would want to read it.

There are basically two kinds of books: truth and lies, otherwise known as nonfiction and fiction (novels). Some hundred thousand books are published in English each year, both nonfiction and novels. You must know what kind of book you're writing before you start.

Let's imagine that you've read a Harry Potter novel, and you're so enthusiastic that you're inspired to write your own children's novel. The words pour out of you; you're on fire. You write and write and write, and the pages pile up on your computer's hard drive.

This is great. While you're writing, ask yourself: "In a bookstore, where would this book of mine be shelved?"

If you're not sure, go to a bookstore and wander around the shelves. Is your book in the nonfiction section? In the children's section? In the romance novel or mystery section?

If you're inspired by Harry Potter, you know you're writing a children's novel. Imagine your book on the shelves, right beside the rows of Harry Potters.

This isn't an idle exercise, or a fantasy. You must know what you're writing, so please visit that bookstore. "What is it?" is the first thing an agent will want to know when you contact her to represent your book. It's also the first thing an editor at a publishing house will want to know.

So, what are you writing? If you don't know, or aren't sure, think about it and visit a bookstore if you need to. You can write a book and get published if you know what you're writing, and who will want to read it.

10 Characteristics of an Interesting Book

Writing a book is a difficult task, and the one the thing many writers get caught up in is this:

what makes a novel great? What are the components of a book that draws people in and gets them to really read the story? Here are the

10 essential characteristics of an interesting book.

10 Characteristics of an Interesting Book

Title: A fantastic title is what makes people remember the book, and is a symbol of the books overall message. One of my favorite titles ever is It's Kind of a Funny Story.

Great Cover: The cover is what draws people in. While this comes in to play later in processing, it is still an important element to consider.

Compelling Characters: The characters in a novel are everything. Without creating interesting, believable characters, readers lose interest within the novel very quickly.

Fantastic Dialogue: Dialogue is a huge part of any novel, and if your characters don't interact with personality and interest, then your readers won't care about what they have to say.

An Interesting Struggle: Novels, by definition, have some kind of conflict within them, whether it is internal or external. A great novel requires an interesting struggle. One that is not impossible, but not so easy as to bore the readers.

No Fluff or "Filler Writing": Many new writers to the game have this particular problem. Readers do not want to listen to parts of the story put in simply to fill in space. Unless it's important to the world or the overall theme, "filler content" is an amateur mistake to make.

Thought Provoking: A great novel is one that provokes thought, and really leaves you with something you didn't have before. A novel such as this is The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy which gives you a new perspective to consider many parts of the world around us. It also gives us the answer to life: 42.

Complete and Fulfilling Story: Nothing is worse than a story that leaves you unsatisfied. While it's a great thing to be left wanting more, when it all comes down to it, readers need to know who did and didn't get the girl, who the bad guy is, and whether or not the hero returns home.

Room to Grow: Your novel should always have room to grow. A great novel is one that leaves some part of the characters a mystery, or one with a story or ending that is somewhat open to interpretation. While you don't want to leave plot holes or wide gaps of logic, leaving a little space to make your readers ponder creates a thought provoking experience.

Satisfying Ending:One of my favorite ending methods is when the character ends up losing his or her memory, or his or her ability to change things, and instead, writes a book about it and sends it back to the person that it was written for. Creating a compelling story ending is essential. After, all, novels are a journey, and what people remember most is when they finally arrive at their destination.

There are tons of elements and criteria that make up a "great" novel, but I find that these 10 are really the most essential.

"How Much Money Can I Make Writing a Book?" Let Us Answer Your Question

Becoming a writer is not everyone's cup of tea. Though we have our own story to tell, it's not an easy task to write your own book. But if you aspire to become a renowned writer, you somehow ask yourself, "How much money can I make writing a book?"

Writing a book about you or about something interesting can be very rewarding if it is published and purchased by readers who took an interest in reading it. But if you are aiming for an enormous return of your investments in making a book, then you should be aware that only a few writers can make a fortune from it. But if you are too passionate in publishing your book or novel, then you must have the determination to excel in this kind of profession. It often takes a lifetime to finish a good book because of the revisions that often takes place. Then it will be published after you have concluded the last part. Only then you realized that you have spent years in completing it.

"How much money can I make writing a book", you would often ask yourself before you start creating one. After you have completed your composition, then you could be thinking about the cost you will spend in publishing it and the distribution in the market. It is a reality that only a few writers can succeed in becoming famous in the literary world. And today, book readers have diminished in numbers due to the cyber dominance in the lifestyle of once a "book enthusiast". It is very easy to acquire knowledge in just a click away in the internet websites. It became the conventional routine for someone who wants to acquire for facts and data instead of going to the bookstore and flip through the pages to search for answers. Browsing through the pages of the internet website is more convenient and time saving than buying a book that costs more than spending on internet cafes.

"How Much Money Can I Make Writing a Book?" Let Us Answer Your Question

If you think that it is feasible to make money in making a book, then you should consider in shifting your attention to making articles for websites. You can make inquiries about this latest trend in writing blogs or article contents. A lot of writers have claimed to earn an enormous amount from this kind of venture. This is suggested for home based writers and could easily acquire clients that purchases content articles for their products or services. And pay outs are faster and negotiable, depending on your expertise and qualification. Generally, an article that consists of 400 to 500 words will cost for almost 10 dollars. But if you outsource it, you will pay your hired writers for 6 to 7 dollars and you can earn 3 dollars for yourself. If you make a study in starting this kind of business, then you will see that you can earn from it too without writing a single article.

Now you can distinguish the disparity between selling books the traditional way against selling your blogs or articles through the cyber marketing. Put an end to your question on "how much money can I make writing a book" and establish your own website as a freelance writer.

How Can H Pylori Cause Anxiety and Depression?

It is well known that H. pylori can cause digestive symptoms such as heartburn, reflux, bloating, nausea and vomiting. However, the knock on effects of bacterial and parasitic infections can be profound and may cause seemingly unrelated symptoms.

Research has clearly shown that H. pylori can cause vitamin B12 deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia.

Typically, in medical research other nutrients are not studied. However nutritionists who use advanced laboratory testing techniques commonly see deficiencies in vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6 when patients have digestive infections. It is also not uncommon to see amino acid and fatty acid insufficiencies.

How Can H Pylori Cause Anxiety and Depression?

If the body becomes nutritionally depleted as a result of H. pylori and other digestive infections, symptoms can develop elsewhere in the body.

For example, amino acids are required for the production of thyroid hormone and the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. B6 is required for the formation of dopamine. If these chemicals are low in the body, depression, anxiety and fatigue can easily set in.

Typically SSRI antidepressant drugs will be prescribed in these situations but the key to successful treatment is actually to ensure the gut is functioning properly. This means removing H. pylori, other infections and ensuring proper digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Convenient and inexpensive urine testing can be employed to evaluate nutritional status and short-term supplementation can be used to replenish specific nutrient levels.

It is known that H. pylori and other digestive infections cause inflammation in the digestive tract. H. pylori is well known as a major cause of gastritis.

Inflammation always requires an anti-inflammatory response. The body's anti-inflammatory hormones are cortisol and cortisone. High levels of inflammation lead to higher than normal levels of cortisol. Because cortisol is a stimulatory hormone, high levels can lead to anxiety and panic.

An increased demand for cortisol also leads to a reduction in the sex hormones - progesterone, oestrogen and testosterone. Imbalances in these hormones can cause a multitude of symptoms, including depression, anxiety, irritability, fatigue, period pains, acne and more.

If the H. pylori is not dealt with and the inflammation continues, the cortisol levels will start to drop as the adrenal glands where it is made become fatigued. Low cortisol can also cause mood symptoms.

Doctors tend to overlook digestive infections as a cause of mood problems but the reality is that if a patient cannot absorb nutrients and has imbalanced hormones, mental and emotional symptoms are almost inevitable.

How to End Sabotaging Relationship Patterns and Melt the Walls

Whether you are in a relationship that has just begun or one that began decades ago, if you are not satisfied with the behaviors you are shown, simply change your response to those behaviors, and a reaction will result.

Your partner's reaction will have to change to reflect the changes in your attitudes, your guidelines and boundaries.

All you can change is you.

How to End Sabotaging Relationship Patterns and Melt the Walls

All you can control and manipulate

is your own choice.

You can react to what you are shown,

or you can leave the source of discomfort in your life.

For as you change, as you grow, your reactions do as well.
You break the cycle of dysfunction within a relationship when
you choose to respond in a new, more highly evolved fashion.

When you love another, your communication of self-love is
what allows the love to flow between you. Not a wall, not a
game, not a punishment, not lashing out, not carrying on hysterically,
but only love of self communicates what you see, feel,
or observe to be beyond the boundary of what you will tolerate.
When you whine, beg, plead, cry, yell, scream, throw, hit,
or lash out, your actions do not deserve the respect you ultimately
are entitled to.

But when you openly and calmly share anything that displeases
you, anything that causes you to feel unvalued or unappreciated,
then you have genuine communication. Then you
have friendship, understanding, respect for each other's feelings,
and the integrity to preserve the good you have found.
Build a new bridge of understanding over the turbulent
waters of confusion and pain. Allow past hurts and pains to
flow out of your system and out of the dynamic of your relationship
by sharing truth honestly, deeply, and purely When
you both do that, truth and understanding will replace chaos
and pain.

Melting the walls that stand between you

Much of the discord couples experience comes from fear of
exposing their true feelings - their love, fears, doubts, insecurities
- their true selves. So they hide their truth behind ego,
pride, defense mechanisms, stories, lies, and games instead of
communicating authentically.

When you do this, it robs you of your own solid foundation,
your feelings of strong self-worth, self-respect, and
high self-esteem. When you are too afraid to expose the real
you, then you play the games that destroy a genuine healthy
relationship or romantic friendship. But as you heal and realize
there is nothing so terrible to hide, you then begin to
feel more secure to share your truth. As you do this, you reinforce
your self-worth and, at the same time, you reinforce
the relationship's foundation with truth.

When two people love, they have a common ground
from which to build a new foundation based on trust, mutual
respect, and mutual understanding. Yet, there must be
compromise. One cannot yield all the time. Satisfaction of
needs, wants, requests, and desires must be reciprocal.

Think about the word "relationship." Relate your concerns
and feelings on the ship of your making, so you may
travel together on a sea of understanding.

If you begin a relationship with a pre-set agenda, you will
find that you are not being your real self. You act the way you
think the other wants you to act. You toss aside many of your
goals, interests, dreams, and aspirations because you think
that doing so will allow you to "get" this man or this woman.

And in that process you steal the foundation of your truth, of
your core, from your very self, and you prevent the other
from knowing your inner beauty.

Like so many people, you may try to be perfect at the beginning
of a relationship. You try to look your best, act your
best, feel your best. But you leave out the most important ingredient:
the real you, which is the best you. Like so many
people, you think that if you showed the real you, your potential
partner would surely run, leaving skid marks on the way.

What is so wrong or terrible with the real you?

Perfection is not exciting. It is boring.

If you always try to be perfect, you create discomfort with
the other person and actually prevent the growth of true
friendship and intimacy.

Where are her moods? Doesn't he ever get angry? Does she
always look so perfect? Doesn't he ever have a bad day? Why
can't she show me she gets mad? Doesn't he have any real feelings?
Is she always so intellectual? Does he really have a heart?
Where is it? How can I show my real self if he or she doesn't do
it too?

You see, when you both present your real and genuine
selves to each other, you lay a solid foundation from which
you can develop an honest and meaningful friendship or romance
with one another.

You may know that many times people will test others to
see what they will put up with, what they will tolerate. Testers
want to find out how much they can get away with. They also
want to know whether the testees have enough respect and
regard for themselves to put the testers in their place if they
cross the line.

Sometimes the one you date

wants to see that you have guts,

that you are not a spineless wimp,

that you do have self-respect,

that you will only tolerate being treated

with common decency and respect.

So, show it!

If others say something to you that strikes a
Chord within, and you don't like the feelings you are getting as
a result of their words or actions, you must speak up and say
so. Now.

You can say it gently and graciously,

but make sure that it is said.

By speaking up, you honor and preserve your self-esteem,
your personal dignity. Others then know how you feel
as a result of what they did or said, and they know what you
are requesting of them; it then becomes their choice as to
whether they will honor your personal boundaries.

Each person is entitled to all of his or her own beliefs,
opinions, preferences, joys, and individuality.

You do not own others; they are not your property. You
share your time or your life together. As you learned in
nursery school, sharing is giving; it is not taking, and it is
not demanding that another does it all your way.
